What are French doors?
A French door is a lightly constructed door with a double-glazed glass panel filling the length of the door. Originally from France, in the 16th and 17th centuries, they were perfect for introducing another light source into a room. They can be made of uPVC, timber or aluminium.
Benefits of French doors
French doors have the capacity to open wide allowing you to ventilate a room in the summer and they also allow you to transition from your home to your garden nicely. Although French doors are perfect for the summer, they are also good insulators for winter. With their drought-resistant seals, they insulate your home effectively.
Being very easy on the eye gives you the ability to add a new aesthetically pleasing dimension to your room, and if your room is naturally quite dark, adding French doors can brighten up and open up your room adding an extra light source and giving the appearance that the room is bigger.
Things to consider when purchasing French doors
Before purchasing your doors it's good to know the difference between French and patio doors. Our French door installers can help you with any queries you may have, but roughly saying, French doors open outwards on hinges, they have a more classical rustic design but can be customized to fit your home and are slightly smaller than patio doors.
